Purpose & Scope of Position

The Hydrology & Hydraulic Modelling Specialist will lead and deliver hydrological and hydraulic studies for infrastructure, urban drainage, riverine, and flood risk projects. The role requires strong technical expertise, client-facing capability, leadership in project delivery, and support to business development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Hydrology & Hydraulic Modelling

  • Undertake hydrological and hydraulic modelling studies with a strong understanding of system behaviour, assumptions, and limitations.
  • Perform 1D, 1D–2D, and 2D hydraulic modelling using:
    • HEC‑RAS
    • MIKE
    • HEC‑HMS
  • Carry out comprehensive hydrological analysis, including:
    • Rainfall frequency and statistical analysis
    • Hydrometeorological data assessment
    • Derivation of design hydrographs
  • Conduct hydraulic analysis of:
    • Rivers and streams
    • Urban drainage and stormwater systems
    • Floodplains and catchments

 

Flood Risk & Resilience Studies

  • Prepare and deliver Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) for infrastructure and urban developments.
  • Develop and assess flood mitigation strategies, including:
    • Structural solutions (drainage improvements, channels, storage, flood protection works)
    • Non‑structural solutions (planning measures, zoning, operational controls)

GIS & Spatial Analysis

  • Analyze and interpret spatial datasets using GIS platforms such as:
    • QGIS
    • ArcGIS
    • MapInfo
    • Open‑source/freeware GIS tools
  • Perform topographical analysis to support hydrological and hydraulic modelling.
  • Prepare clear, accurate maps, figures, and visual outputs for reports and presentations.

Standards, Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all studies and designs comply with relevant Indian Codes and Standards.
  • Apply rigorous quality control, validation, and documentation practices.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and adherence to established workflows.

Client Interaction & Communication

  • Perform a client-facing technical role, leading discussions, reviews, and presentations.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and presentations suitable for clients, authorities, and funding agencies.
