Purpose & Scope of Position
Lead and oversee mechanical design and commissioning-related activities across large-scale industrial, infrastructure, or energy projects, ensuring high standards of design integration, constructability, and commissioning readiness.
Experience
10-12 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary environment on major projects of relevant experience in water systems design for thermal power projects.
Qualification
BE / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering. M. Tech in Mechanical / Thermal / Energy Systems preferred. Registration as a professional engineer with the governing authority (preferable)
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering:
- Lead mechanical design efforts for commissioning-sensitive systems (rotating equipment, piping systems, HVAC, etc.).
- Ensure all mechanical systems are designed for efficient installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Review and approve mechanical layouts, GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and design documents.
- Ensure designs comply with codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, IS codes).
Commissioning Readiness:
- Develop commissioning philosophies and mechanical commissioning strategies in collaboration with project teams.
- Provide engineering support during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and performance testing phases.
- Resolve design and operational issues encountered during commissioning.
- Ensure smooth handover of mechanical systems with complete documentation.
Project Coordination:
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (electrical, civil, instrumentation) for integrated design and commissioning planning.
- Interact with site teams, clients, and OEMs to align design and commissioning approaches.
Team Management & Mentoring:
- Guide and mentor junior engineers and designers in mechanical systems and commissioning protocols.
- Conduct design reviews, root cause analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Prepare and review technical reports, commissioning checklists, SOPs, and system documentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
